Letter from the Chair
Welcome to the newest issue of our ELT News. We are bringing it out once a year now so we hope you have been waiting impatiently for it to arrive. Since Philip Kerr has become our editor, we know that people all around the globe are interested in what we are producing here in Austria. We hope, of course, that our TEA members are also excited to read what is new in the various areas of English Teaching.
We at TEA had an eventful 2016, with a conference in April, and a number of events throughout the year. Our last one was a workshop in the small town of Steyr in Oberösterreich at the University of Applied Sciences there. We are also looking forward to the new year and our annual summer school of 2017 which will have Jamie Keddie and Peter Dyer as our trainers. We already have more registrations than ever before, so check it out soon on our website and get our 10% discount if you book before 31 January 2017!
If you are interested in our summer school of 2016 in Hinterglemm, there is an article and some pictures about that event – also one of the most successful summer schools in number of participants – that we have ever had. Ingrid Weber has taken over from Anne Storey in making all the arrangements for us, and we look forward to seeing many of the same faces as well as new ones in 2017.
We at TEA put a special emphasis on professional development, and so we hope our ELT News will provide an avenue for you to drive down in order to find out what is new in our area of English teaching. While we have conferences and workshops, we cannot always meet the needs of our members who cannot travel, so this is another way we would like to let you know we are thinking of you and providing some content that you may appreciate.
Having been the editor of the ELT News for a number of years, I feel it necessary here to thank Philip for all the hard work he has put into the issue. Collecting and editing the articles is a big job and one that people don’t realize takes a lot of time and effort. After all, we, the readers, only need to open the document and start reading. So, once again, I’d like to say thank you to him. And thank you, readers, for being interested and curious about the new ideas we present to you.
